What happens during a session?
The introductory session
The first session begins with an extended discussion about your history, activities, expectations and goals for the process as it applies to your unique situation and structure. Male clients receive work in underwear or swimsuit, women in two piece swimsuits or bra and underwear. I will observe you and the way you stand, walk and other general movements. The specific goals of the session will be discussed. I will ask you to lie on a massage table so I can work with your body, and will ask you to actively participate in the session by using your breath, or to make small specific movements.
Each session is 70 - 90 minutes in length
It is common that the sessions are received weekly for ten weeks in a row, but fortnightly or even monthly will work too, it will just take longer for all the best things to start! The ten sessions are administered progressively so you will notice each session builds upon the last, and prepares for the next, until complete integration of the body is achieved. Structural Integration seeks to achieve vertical alignment relative to gravity by balancing the body from front to back, side to side, top to bottom and inside to outside. At that stage, your body has all the tools it needs to start healing itself, and we usually allow a period of time for your body to automatically integrate to its fullest degree before scheduling additional work. The waiting period can be anywhere from one month to one year based on the client's unique experience. After the waiting period the client can return for tune-up sessions or advanced sessions to further the process of integration.
“When the body gets working appropriately, the force of gravity can flow through. Then, spontaneously, the body heals itself” Ida Rolf
